Taking the Lab on the Road

The Healthy Regions & Policies Lab has been on the road! We connected with researchers, practitioners, and interdisciplinary communities to share all about the SDOH & Place Project.

Through our recent participation in the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science (IAPHS) Conference and the Research Data Alliance's 27th Plenary Meeting (RDA P27), we had opportunities to showcase our tools, exchange ideas, and explore new ways to make place-based data more accessible and useful.

Connecting with the Population Health Community at IAPHS

From September 29 to October 2, the HEROP Lab participated in the IAPHS Conference in Portland, Oregon, where we introduced attendees to the SDOH & Place Project.

At our booth, we highlighted several resources developed through the project:

  • Data Discovery Tool: An application designed to help researchers and communities find and explore place-based datasets relevant to the social determinants of health.
  • Community Toolkit: A collection of educational resources designed to build capacity for working with spatial data and applying it to community-centered research.
  • Research Guides: Resources that help researchers navigate important topics, methods, and data sources related to SDOH and place.

Exploring AI-Assisted Data Discovery at RDA P27

On October 8th, we presented our approach to AI-assisted search within the SDOH & Place Data Discovery Tool at the Research Data Alliance's 27th Plenary Meeting (RDA P27).

Our presentation highlighted how AI-assisted search can support a more intuitive data discovery experience, helping users explore available datasets without relying exclusively on traditional search methods.

Thank you to everyone who connected with us, attended our presentation, visited our booth, and shared their perspectives. We look forward to seeing where these conversations lead!
